Aboubakar Sylla

Lannaya welcomes Aboubakar Sylla, drummer and balafon player, from Guinea, West Africa.

Born into a family of musicians and storytellers, Griots, he began his music studies as a young child. By the time he reached his teens, he was performing in dance and music ensembles such as Wali and Wasaso. Later on he went on to perform in Les Ballets Africans, the national company of Guinea, where he toured throughout the world. Aboubakar performs and teaches both drum and balafon here in Austin.
